Olton B v Olton A
Garry Evans on board 1 for the B team had much the better of the game early on, with Tayeb Kazemi quite restricted. But the pressure was released and the game was drawn. Richard Evans and Robert Reynolds also drew on board 2, as did Andy Cottom and Warren Archibald on three. Warren was pressing on the King's side, but risked opening his own King and the position became blocked. On board 4, Rory Lynas went into a difficult opening, but Roger Threlfall allowed some attacking chances on the king's side. After some exchanges and a blunder, Roger eventually won. On board 5, Tom Evans got into difficulty in the opening, with a Knight blocking sis Queen's side development. Jim Gillespie with all the momentum took a protracted route to win material and eventually the game. On board 6, Terry Gorman had some opportunity to press on the King's side with his King safely in a blocked centre, but allowed a Knight in and reached the ending a pawn down. Michael Winterman played the ending carefully to win, exchanging the last dangerous Rook off, leaving a passed pawn.
