Olton v Stratford C

Garry Evans on top board had a King's side advantage and went into a Rook, Knight and Pawns ending with 2 extra pawns. The Queen's side appeared quiet, but attempts to win additional pawns resulted in a loss of a piece. 2 more pawns fell, but Rooks had to be exchanged. The ensuing ending of King and Knight v 3 pawns could have been an endgame study, but ended in a draw. Rory Lynas on two started well with an advanced Knight, but a full King's side attack ensured. With defences shored up, some counterplay resulted in a mating attack with the opponent's pieces in disarray. Jim Gillespie on board 3 held on to an early gambit pawn and went on to win another. With a seemingly straightforward ending to finish, the curse of the Rook and Knight plus this time Queen ending struck again and the game was lost. Terry Gorman on bottom board went a piece down and the resulting ending result was inevitable.

Olton v Leamington C

Leamington were a player short. Warren Archibald had a good win on board 3 and Rory Lynas also won on two. Garry Evans looke dto be doing well on top board, but went on to lose.
